what to do when it gets soaked?
The dreaded downpour, riding through a puddle, or a splash near a stream. If you ride all year round, you have certainly experienced one of these mishaps. Here is how to react.
Why water and electric skateboards don't mix well
- Electronic components: controller, BMS, lithium battery are more or less sensitive to water depending on the design. Waterproofing certifications represent a cost often avoided by brands.
- Bamboo deck: water can delaminate the layers if the glue is of poor quality, causing swelling, warping or breakage.
- Trucks and hardware: can gradually rust.
- Bearings: seize up, reducing the freewheel feel and range.
- Grip tape: can smooth out and lose its abrasive quality.
A design built to resist
Evo-Spirit battery packs are waterproof, with the integrated BMS to protect it. The controller is, depending on the generation, encased in protective silicone. We continuously evolve our skateboards to make them increasingly waterproof.
The decks are made from multiple layers of premium bamboo and the glue is carefully selected. No risk of delamination or warping.
What to do depending on the level of exposure
💧 Superficial contact
A few drops of rain or a ride through a small puddle: wipe the board down and leave it in a dry environment at room temperature. Evo-Spirit skateboards are designed to withstand water splashes.
🌧️ Soaked skateboard
After heavy rain: switch off the skateboard as soon as possible. Lay it on its side on two wheels to let the water drain. Place it in a warm, dry room, near a radiator or in the sun.
🌊 Full immersion
Act fast. If the skateboard refuses to switch off, disassemble it to manually disconnect the battery. Separate the controller and battery from the board. Dry with a hairdryer at a reasonable distance. In extreme cases, leave it to rest for a few days in rice or on a radiator. Our experience: there is a good chance of reviving your skateboard by following these instructions.
Despite everything, it still won't start?
If your skateboard still doesn't work, it is often possible to replace the faulty part. Our skateboards are designed to be easily repairable with standard replacements you can do yourself in minutes. This type of damage is not covered by the warranty – we sell skateboards, not submarines!
