Discover the electric skateboard jargon, from B.M.S. to carving, to master the art of drift and optimise your rider experience.
The glossary of the
electric skateboard
Essential components, technical terms, rider jargon. Everything you need to know to speak the language of electric skateboarding.
From B.M.S. to Cruiser
B.M.S.
Battery Management System. The brain of the battery. This circuit regulates its parameters to guarantee longevity and safety during charging and use.
Baseplate
Part at the base of the truck that screws onto the deck.
Batterie
Made up of lithium cells, it is your fuel. Its quality determines your range and safety.
Belt Drive Motor
External motor that drives a belt, unlike the hub motor. The principle behind our Switcher range.
Bushings
Rubber cushions in the truck. They ensure the joint between the baseplate and the axle, offering resistance and centred return.
Cambre
The curve of a deck along its length. A deck with camber is bowed upwards.
Carving
As in skiing or snowboarding: going down slopes by making turns, favouring grip over sliding.
Chargeur
Allows the battery to be recharged. Different power levels in amperage: 2A standard, 4A fast (charges twice as fast).
Concave
Curve across the width of the deck. A concave deck is slightly hollowed in the centre, raised at the edges.
Contrôleur (E.S.C.)
The "motherboard" of your electric skateboard. Manages all the board's functions.
Courroie
Transmits drive from the motor to the wheel pulley. Ours are selected for the longevity of our skateboards.
Cruiser
Small board ideal for cruising around. Also the English term for "to cruise".

From Deck to Hub motor
Deck
English term for the board's deck.
Drift
A turn with a slide/drift.
Duro
Hardness of the wheel rubber or bushings. The higher the number, the harder the rubber.
Eskate / E-sk8
E-skate, E-skateboard, Esk8, E-sk8, Electric skate: all the ways to name the electric skateboard!
Goofy
Stance with the left foot at the back of the skateboard.
Grip / Griptape
Abrasive paper glued to the top surface of the deck. Ensures foot safety and better grip.
Hanger
Part of the truck that surrounds the axle.
Hook
Accessory that holds the front foot on the board, offering more support in turns.
Hub moteur
Motor integrated directly into the wheel. The principle behind our Curve range, offering the longboard feel with a true freewheel.

From Kicktail to Wobble
Kicktail
Raised part at the end of a deck.
Kingpin
Truck axle fixed to the baseplate, on which the bushings fit. Can be double: double kingpin.
Nose
Front part of the skateboard.
Pads (Risers)
Rubber elements between the trucks and the deck. Raise the board and reduce vibrations.
Regular
Stance with the right foot at the back of the skateboard.
Rider
That's you! The person who rides the electric skateboard. To join the Evo-Spirit team, ask to join the group.
Rocker
Downward curve of the deck along its length.
Shape
The shape of the board in all its dimensions.
Slide
Sliding/skidding.
Strap / Footstrap
Straps to secure the feet on the board. Fixed or adjustable with velcro or ratchets.
Tail
Rear part of the skateboard.
Topmount
Traditional mounting with the trucks fixed under the deck.
Trucks
The two axles holding the wheels.
Wheelbite
When the wheel touches the deck during a turn. Often caused by a poorly assembled or poorly adjusted skateboard.
Wheelbase
The wheelbase: distance separating the inner truck mounting holes.
Wobble (Guidonnage)
Oscillatory phenomenon at high speed that can cause loss of control.
