Maintaining your
Evo-Spirit electric skateboard
The habits that keep you riding longer
An electric skateboard is freedom, glide and the pure pleasure of riding. But like any decent piece of kit, it deserves a little attention to stay at its best. Looking after your Evo-Spirit board means avoiding unexpected breakdowns, preserving your range and keeping the ride smooth and powerful. And the good news: a few simple habits are all it takes to extend your board's life without any fuss.
Cleaning and inspection
Cleaning without causing damage
After each session, especially on wet, sandy or dusty terrain:
- Run a stiff brush over the grip tape to maintain good foot traction.
- Use a blower or a small brush to clear dust from around the motors, belts and wheel drives.
- Avoid soaked cloths or jet washing – moisture and electronics don't mix.
Cleaning right after your session stops dirt from setting in and is far quicker than a deep clean later.
Quick check before storing
- Check that all bolts and screws are tight (trucks, motors, enclosures).
- Inspect the condition of the deck and wheels.
- Spin each wheel and check for smooth, friction-free rotation with no unusual noise.
To make this easy, check out the Evo-Spirit maintenance kit – everything you need to clean, lubricate and care for your board in one place.
Drivetrain and wheels
Adjusting belt tension
The belts transfer power from the motors to the wheels. They need to be tensioned just right:
- Too loose: risk of slipping under hard braking or acceleration.
- Too tight: accelerated wear, motor overheating and risk of mechanical failure (truck axle, motor mount, etc.).
Quick test: ride at around 20 km/h and hit the brakes hard. If you hear a sharp snap, your belt is too loose. Adjust it before your next session.
Cleaning the gear drives
Gear drives collect sand and dust quickly:
- Clean them gently with a fine brush or dry brush.
- No grease on the belts – the drier they are, the better they grip.
- Check that nothing is lodged in the teeth: a foreign object can cause the belt to skip.
Bearings and bushings
- Clean the bearings with a mild degreaser.
- Apply a small drop of bearing oil to keep them spinning freely.
- Bushings can be lightly greased for more comfort and to eliminate squeaking.
Winterizing your
Evo-Spirit electric skateboard
Drying and preparation
Before putting the board away for winter:
- Make sure it is completely dry, especially around the motors and bearings.
- Leave it in a ventilated spot for a few hours to let any remaining moisture escape.
- Never leave your board in direct sunlight or extreme cold before storing.
Standing water and extreme temperatures are the worst enemies of both the mechanics and the electronics.
Storage and long-term maintenance
- Store the battery at between 70 and 100% to prevent deep discharge.
- Keep it somewhere dry and temperate, away from humidity and frost.
- Avoid cold garages or damp basements.
- If you're not riding regularly, run the motors for a few minutes every two weeks, then top up the charge to keep the cells active.
Come spring, do a full check – bolts, belts, battery, tyre pressure – and your board will be ready to ride again.
A little maintenance, a lot of freedom
Looking after your Evo-Spirit electric skateboard means extending the pleasure of riding it. A few simple habits – a brush-down after a session, a belt check, a proper charge and a well-managed battery – are enough to keep your board ready for every ride.
At Evo-Spirit, we ride with passion and respect for our gear. A well-maintained skateboard means maximum range and miles of extra fun.

How do I clean my Evo-Spirit electric skateboard without damaging it?
Never use direct water or a wet cloth. Use a soft brush or blower to remove dust and sand from around the motors, belts and gear drives. Also brush the grip tape to maintain good traction.
How often should I check the bolts and mechanical parts?
A quick check after each session is enough: tighten bolts (trucks, motors, enclosures), inspect the deck condition and spin each wheel to check for smooth rotation. This prevents vibrations and catches problems early.
How do I adjust belt tension?
Test at 20 km/h: if you hear a snapping sound under hard braking, the belt is too loose. If the motors are overheating quickly, it's too tight. Aim for a belt that's snug but has a small amount of play.
How do I maintain the bearings and bushings?
Clean the bearings with a mild degreaser, then apply a small drop of bearing oil. Lightly grease the bushings to reduce squeaking and improve riding smoothness.
What are the best habits for preserving the battery?
Never leave the battery completely empty for several days. Recharge after each ride without leaving it plugged in once full. For long-term storage, keep the charge between 50 and 70% and avoid extreme temperatures.
How do I prepare my electric skateboard for winter?
Dry it completely before storing, especially around the motors. Store it somewhere dry and cool with the battery at around half charge. When spring arrives, do a full check before your first ride back.
Does riding style affect the skateboard's lifespan?
Yes. Starting with a small push, accelerating gradually and choosing the right riding mode for the terrain reduces wear and energy consumption. A smooth style extends the life of your board and all its components.
